Hull, UK (Race Finish)

A spectacular welcome greeted the crew of Cape Breton Island – Nova Scotia’s Masterpiece as they arrived back in Hull at the end of the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race, finishing in third place overall.

Tens of thousands of people lined the banks of the Humber and the quayside of Hull Marina to welcome home the crews after a gruelling ten-month challenge that has seen them take on the world’s largest and most formidable oceans, endured violent storms and frustrating calms, extreme heat and bone-numbing cold, unstintingly come to the aid of their fellow competitors in times of need and, all the while, raced ferociously to win.

John Lynn, CEO of Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation sent a message of congratulations to the team, saying “On behalf of the Federal Government of Canada, and the people of Cape Breton Island, I wholeheartedly congratulate skipper Jan Ridd and the crew of Cape Breton Island – Nova Scotia’s Masterpiece.”

At a dinner in Northeast Linconshire post race, the leader of the local council offered to establish a “friendship agreement” with Cape Breton Island to further build upon the connections and opportunities identified between our two regions, and this document is being developed now.
