The Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race

The Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race (www.clipperroundtheworld.com), originally established by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston in 1995 when he set up Clipper Ventures, will take place from September 2009 until July 2010.  Since 1995, the Clipper organization has successfully organized six round the world yacht races.  The seventh will begin on September 13, 2009 when a fleet of ten identical 68-foot stripped down yachts will depart the Humber (Hull, UK) on the northeast coast of England and embark on an around the globe race. The yachts will travel 35,000 miles and stop in fourteen ports of call on five continents within ten months.

During the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia will be taking advantage of Clipper Ventures' unique and successful sponsorship model that gives international sponsors the chance to reap the rewards of global marketing and promotion opportunities.  During the 07-08 race, it was estimated that the Clipper event itself generated approximately $56.85 million US ($62.4 million CAN) in world-wide media coverage, attracting a world-wide audience of 215 million people.

One of the opportunities include a yacht being branded with a magnificent eagle and the "Cape Breton Island Nova Scotia's Masterpiece" tag line, the opportunity to organize and host events in key business and tourism ports, numerous networking and business opportunities, and the chance to leverage the significant media exposure that the Clipper race generates throughout the world.

Cape Breton’s participation in this race represents a significant international marketing opportunity for the island.  By taking advantage of the above opportunities Cape Breton Island will be able to increase awareness and promote this region within significant ports of call around the world, including:

Hull, UK; La Rochelle, France; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Cape Town, South Africa; Geraldton, W. Australia; Singapore, Qingdao, China; San Francisco, US; Jamaica; New York, US, Sydney, NS, Canada; Cork, Ireland; and Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Of note, the yacht from Cape Breton Island will be the only Canadian entry in the race and the only entry from along the Atlantic seaboard.
